Department heads appointed at Geoscience and Biology
Jan Piotrowski has been appointed at the Department of Geoscience and Hans Brix has been appointed at the Department of Biology.
Department of Geoscience
In summer 2019, Jan Piotrowski took over from Søren Bom Nielsen as acting head of department at the Department of Geoscience. After the position had been advertised, Jan Piotrowski was appointed from 1 April 2020 on a limited tenure of four years with the option of an extension for an additional three years.
Jan Piotrowski has been employed as a professor at the Department of Geoscience at Aarhus University since 1999. Before that, he pursued his research career in Germany, primarily at the University of Kiel, where he earned his PhD degree, but also at universities in Canada and the UK.
Jan Piotrowski’s research background is within the field of Quaternary geology, glacial geology and sedimentology.
Department of Biology
Together with Peter Henriksen, Hans Brix has been head of department at the Department of Bioscience since 2014. When the Department of Bioscience was split in connection with the division of the faculty on 1 January 2020, Hans Brix was appointed as acting head of the new Department of Biology and the position was advertised. Now he has now been officially appointed as the head of department from 1 June on a limited tenure for three years with the option of an extension for an additional three years.
Hans Brix is a botanist and became a professor in plant biology in 2006. He was the head of section for plant biologists at the former Department of Biology for more than ten years.
