BiRC becomes a part of MBG
From July 1st, the Bioinformatics Research Centre (BiRC) will be a part of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG). This is being done to enhance both research and education. All employees will continue with the same tasks as before, and the BiRC brand will be maintained as an independent entity.
"There are already many good professional collaborations between BiRC and MBG, which I hope will be able to grow and develop with the upcoming merger. BiRC will continue as the strong and independent brand it is today - and all employees will continue with the same tasks and remain in their current offices," says Dean Kristian Pedersen.
The new organization aims to provide BiRC with a better foundation to realize its potential and continue the good initiatives.
It has been important for the different parts of the liaison committees that the merger is not a cost-cutting exercise, and that the strong interdisciplinary nature of BiRC is maintained in the new organization.
"I would like to acknowledge the valuable input from employees throughout the process, and also emphasize that the merger is intended to strengthen BiRC - it is not a cost-cutting measure," says Kristian Pedersen, followed by the following statement:
"The interdisciplinary and cross-faculty approach is one of BiRC's significant strengths. BiRC employees connect activities in bioinformatics across faculties and departments, and contribute to integrating research and education in bioinformatics across AU. We must preserve all of that."
